Glee • Season One • Volume 1 • Road to Sectionals
DVD REVIEW – Rating: 6/10

Glee release of the first half of the season on DVD couldn’t come any quicker for its fans but it leaves you wondering are the extras that it comes with just a slap together of odd stuff that they had lying around or have they actually put some effort into this DVD release?
The 4 DVDs that the set comes with have all 13 episodes of the shows first half of its season premiere with the last disk containing the episodes “Mattress” and “Sectionals” along with 13 extras and 8 video diaries.
The Extras
The extras come with some interesting material but it could be expanded upon a bit more – for example the “Casting Session” video, which only included brief clips of Lea Micheles, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer’s audition tapes could have been expanded on so fans (like myself) get more information on why they chose who they chose.
I think the one actual performance that would have been done especially for the DVD is the “Welcome to McKinley!” video which basically tries to replicate a school production of a new students introduction to McKinley high with Principal Figgins guiding you around parts of the school. Now whether the objective here was to be funny or just put in as a space filler I do not know but for one thing: Believing that this is funny is like believing that it would be a great idea to go to foreign planet and kill all the natives to obtain rare minerals.
The Video Diaries
This was one part of the DVD that was actually pretty good, they basically gave all the main cast members (not Heather I’m afraid L) Flip HD Video Cameras for their first trip to New York as a complete cast and had them film whatever they wished. You get to see how the cast members act out of their regular characters and there’s some pretty funny moments like Cory & Diana’s “I’m Filming you, Filming me, Filming you, Filming me” and the cast members awesome hotel room party that looked like it got a bit crazy as the night went on!
Here are the cast members that you get to see video diaries of:

An interesting side note that I picked up in the video diaries is that only Cory and Lea got to travel first class to NYC while the others had to slack it in economy!
So that concludes my review, My recommendation on the DVD would be to grab it if you are a hardcore fan as there are some pretty funny and interesting extras.
